SUMMARY:[:en]WP6 Phase I Kick-off Meeting[:cn]第六课题组第一阶段启动会议[:]
DESCRIPTION:The Phase I Kick-off Meeting of WP6 was held successfully on 8th-9th October 2009 at Royal Berkshire Hotel\, Ascot\, London\, UK. It was organized by Prof. Kenneth Muir and Dr. Jin Xu of the University of Warwick following the important start up work by Prof. George Lewith of the University of Southampton and other colleagues. The majority of WP6 members attended this Phase I Kick-off meeting. \nThe three-year plan of WP6 was discussed and agreed in principle\, and the task groups and timetabling of deliverables were assigned to individuals during the meeting. It was recognised that the tasks of the WP6 clinical work package\, particularly those of conducting a TCM survey in association with WP8 (acupuncture) are central to the overall development of the project although the limitations of funding would restrict the overall brief. In addition to the developing European collaborations\, our Chinese experts\, and other key Asian members of consortium\, will work together to define the appropriate selected conditions to investigate further together with appropriate literature reviews and recommendations on guidelines on TCM clinical studies\, (including recommendations on randomised controlled trials)\, which are vital to the overall success of the project. To facilitate the further engagement of our Chinese and Asian experts it was therefore agreed that Phase II kick-off meeting would be held in China around the end of the year or early next year. \nIn conclusion\, we believe that the WP6 deliverable tasks\, approved by CO of consortium\, are achievable if we work together in close collaboration and that WP6 members would like to work together as a team with the WP6 and CO leaderships to implement the specific deliverables and overall objectives on time. \nWP6 Phase I Kick-off Meeting in AscotMeeting group photo in Ascot \nAnother Group Photo from the meeting

SUMMARY:[:en]WP3 Kick-off Meeting[:cn]第三课题组启动会议[:]
DESCRIPTION:The WP3 kick-off meeting “Functional genomics and toxicological studies applied to Traditional Chinese Medicines”\, held on 24th-25th October 2009 in Brussels La Hulpe\, brought together 9 members of the WP3 group from both China and Europe\, the coordinator of WP5 and 3 guests from Belgium and D.R. of Congo. A rich program of conferences and round tables allowed all members to better envision group cooperation and to approve the work plan. A practical definition of “toxicity” was achieved in relation with the GP-TCM project and three major fields of action were then defined: (i) investigation of methods (classical and functional genomics) applicable to toxicities evaluation; (ii) study of toxicological reports available on a series of plants (to be defined among the WP1-WP2 priority list\, the top-sellers TCM and the list of 72 toxic plants from the Chinese Pharmacopoeia); (iii) review of pharmacovigilance safety data. \nMinds very open to discussion\, the friendly atmosphere of debates and the quality of scientific talks made for an extremely enjoyable meeting and forecast of a rich collaboration between group members. \n\nWP3 kick-off meeting in Brussels

SUMMARY:[:en]WP8 Kick-off Meeting[:cn]第八课题组启动会议[:]
DESCRIPTION:The Kick-off meeting of “WP8 – Functional Genomics in Studies of Acupuncture- Moxibustion and Meridians” was held on 31st October – 1st November 2009 in Beijing\, China at NuoLin Hotel. The event was hosted by Capital Medical University of China\, and organised by the WP8 coordinator Dr. Xiaomin Wang. The meeting attendees included six WP8 members\, two WP6 members\, and five invited specialist guests in relevant fields. In addition\, a large group of graduate students and postdoctoral trainees from Capital Medical University joined the event as an audience during the open sessions of the meeting. \nDr. Xiaomin Wang announced the opening of the meeting and provided an overview of the FP7 GP-TCM project in his welcome speech. During the morning open sessions\, the meeting attendees introduced themselves with the emphasis on their expertise and research interests as PowerPoint presentations. In the afternoon discussions\, Dr. Huangan Wu and Dr. Wei Ding have reiterated and further explained the general strategy and specific aims of WP8 task proposals and work plans. This was followed by discussions on WP8 3-year plan with the focus on work package tasks and deliverables. After hours of constructive discussions involving many helpful and perspective suggestions\, the members passed the final version of the WP8 work plan and have reach to an agreement on the task-related issues and work assignments. The group has collectively agreed that the web-based communication is very important for internal management and the WP8 webpage will be updated regularly to introduce the progress of Acupuncture-Moxibustion related topics. WP8 tasks related to the literature review and reports were also allocated. Embraced by the first snow in Beijing this year\, Dr. Wolfgang Schwarz and Dr. Jin Xu had the opportunity to visit the Capital Medical University main campus and were also shown a number of laboratories after the kick-off meeting. \n\nWP8 Kick-off Meeting in Beijing
